Three years ago I landed in Vienna and by 10 am my friend and I were already under the rain walking with a heavy trolley in the town centre waiting for our check-in time in the apartment at 3 pm. With Ubag those 5 long hours would have been hands free.

6 UX designers.

MY ROLE

I contributed to the concept ideation, and I designed the User Interface of the application.

Problem

GOING SIGHTSEEING WITH THE BAGGAGE

When hotel check-in is late in the afternoon and located on the other side of the city, carrying around heavy luggage can stop you from seeing the sights, enjoying the culture, and even using public transport. This problem emerged after mind mapping potential mobility issues. We outlined initial assumptions, selected a topic area, and user group.

Process

Discovery

SERVICE SAFARI & SEMI-STRUCTURED INTERVIEWS

The service safari revealed that existing services for storage have limited destination choice, lack of security, and use unsustainable methods. After this, semi-structured interviews confirmed that the chosen issue limits travellers’ mobility.

INSIGHT

People don't feel comfortable leaving their bag to strangers. They are afraid it might be lost or damaged.

SOLUTION

We'll introduce a tracking system to our concept and a reviews system about drivers and potential collection points.

Synthesis

PERSONAS & USER JOURNEY

We decided to address young travellers issues and leave business clients for the further development of the service.

Ideation

BODYSTORMING

A body storming session was crucial to identify any issues and sketch the essential elements for the wireframing. Each one of us had a role, for instance, I was the collection point, and we noted down on post-its the several screens that we should design for each of the three user journeys (i.e. the traveller, the driver and the collector).

TESTING ASSUMPTIONS: SURVEY

Since we could not test the service in the real world, we surveyed 32 young travellers to know if the target group is willing to use the service given the scenario. 84% of participants answered they will take public transportation if this service is available. Also, 62.5% said, £11 – 15 is the proper amount of delivery.

CONCEPT

Ubag is a sustainable user to user service that delivers and stores travellers’ baggage safely for a hands-free journey.

Ubag takes advantage of existing road transport to get your luggage from a to b. Giving you a hands-free experience with the confidence that your luggage will be safe and waiting for you at the destination.

Prototype

BUSINESS MODEL CANVAS, SERVICE BLUEPRINT, WIREFRAME

To prove the feasibility of the project and to add details to the concepts, we considered business considerations and the overall detailed usage of the service. After this, we designed the wireframe accordingly.

Outcome

HOW UBAG WORKS

There are three groups of users that can benefit from our service, the travellers who can enjoy a hands-free journey, also delivery drivers together with staff at the destination points can earn extra money from carrying and storing luggage. After booking a delivery on Ubag, the driver will pick up your luggage and deliver it to your hotel or an affiliated collection point near the final destination where users can pick up their luggage.
